Central Sector Scheme: Centrally Poultry Development Organizations & Central Poultry Performance Testing Center The four centres of the Centrally Poultry Development Organizations (CPDOs) located at Chandigarh (Northern Region), Bhubaneswar (Eastern Region), Mumbai (Western Region) and Centrally Poultry Development Organization & Training Institute (CPDO&TI) Hessarghatta, Bangalore (Southern Region) and one Central Poultry Performance Testing Center (CPPTC) at Gurgaon, Haryana, are promoting the development of poultry through following measures: • Making available quality chicks of Identified low-input technology poultry stocks. • Diversification into rearing of alternate poultry • Training of trainers and farmers • Regular testing of various stocks available in the country to assess their performance. These CPDOs are crucial as Grandparent farms for onward breeding and production of parent stocks which are distributed further to the State Poultry farms. These CPDOs are maintaining various stocks of low-input technology varieties developed in our own CPDOs, ICAR Institutes, State Agriculture/ Veterinary Universities etc. Some of the stocks maintained are Kalinga Brown, Chhabro, Hitcari, Nirbheek, Vanaraja etc. Besides this alternate poultry like Duck, Turkey, Japanese quail, guinea fowl and Emu are also being propagated and promoted. Training of trainers and farmers, women beneficiaries, various public and private sector poultry organizations, NGOs, Banks, Cooperatives and foreign trainees etc. are conducted at CPDO&TI(SR) and basic rearing techniques for backyard farmers in all CPDOs. CPPTC conducts one layer test and two broiler tests annually assessing various production parameters. This is conducted as a blind test giving similar treatment to all stocks irrespective of their source but at the end the results are revealed. The farmers and breeders take advantage of these results in selection of suitable stocks. These CPDOS are acting as Regional stations for compiling regional information from various States respectively and monitor the activity/ progress of various schemes of the Department.
