Chaii ! Those Days Poem. All the countries in Africa, I dashed them one or two poems. See this one for South Africa. South Africa { iRiphabhuliki yaseNingizimu Afrika } Magnet of her spun-gold skin Tingles the planets and blood, Pins the space in the web of lust... Primeval land of naked images Of vast interior plateau In Africas southernmost uterus Coastline stretching along two oceans. Stand on the hills of her nipples And wander your gaze at the Landscapes of Lesotho, Namibia Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique.. Earliest womb of the earth: Hominin Fossil, Caves, Tools, Stones, Rock paintings, Artefacts Mirroring the soul of civilisation. Woman with layers of origins, Cultures, religions and tongues. Of the Nguni peoples near the coast, Sotho-Twana peoples in the highveld And the Venda, Lemba and Shangan-Tsonga in the north-western horizons. Here nature birthed wonders: Great Fish River, Kadish Waterfall, Vaal River, Tributaries, Islands Crooning at the Kudus, Leopards, Lions, Impalas in the Bushveld Criss-crossed with forests, hills, Field of flowers, savannahs, Namib, Drakenberg mountains, Karoo, Parks - Paying perfumed homage to Zuma Rock. Do you still remember Her great kingdoms of old? The Mapungubwe at the confluence Of Sashe and Limpopo rivers And the Zulu - extending Along the coast of Indian Oceans To Tugela and Pongola Rivers Under the umbrella of Shaka . Again her National Heroes - From Nelson Mandela, Joe Slovo, Max Ulyate Sisulu to Oliver Tambo Who axed the talons of apartheid ... And Kimberly, Transvaal, Witwaterstrand where alien gods Sprinkled their blood on the bed Of war over her diamonds and gold; Wrote cold epistles of oppression, Expedition in the heart of history. Children of the shrublands Tap no silent solo sob again Remember not her unripe days Dream dreams of the fingers Of the world growing equal For South Africa is awakening From the deep tomb of miscarriages Out-running her snailing neighbouring Sisters in the race of rejuvenescence. {C} Madu Chisom Kingdavid
