Chandrapur Mosque ( Rajnagar,Belonia) The 1992 is marked as a water- shed year in post-independence Indian history because of the destruction of Babri Maszid at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. The mosque overlooking plains of Bangladesh and Tripura from a hillock was restored in the fateful year 1992 by an initiative of the state government and a ‘Solidarity Fair’ was held. The fair on december 6, the day ‘Babri Maszid’ was destroyed , has been a major annual event in the state’s cultural calendar since then. Experts on Tripura’s history attribute the construction of ‘Rajnagar Maszid’ to the commander of the Mughal army which invaded Tripura in the year 1618 during the reign of king Yashodhar Manikya. Standing atop the secluded hillock in towering glory the mosque beckons tourists to enjoy the majesty of its architectural beauty.
