Chapter seven The Last Part Swet rolled down my body while I did my work out from noon to two pm. My day started off with a forty minute jog around the local college track. Followed by hand stand pushups for twenty minutes. Four sets of forty push ups, forty sit ups, forty curls, and ten minutes of focus training against pain. I lay on broken glass for ten minutes holding my weights when necessary. If Im going to kill this thing. I will need a high pain threshold. After I had finished all this my day was ready to begin. I had just packed the glass into a large cooler and vacuumed up the rest I missed. When my door bell rang. I opened it, and to my surprise Kylie was standing there. I was shirtless holding a bottle if water and a towel. She looked up said a portion of a greeting. Then shook her head and gathered her thoughts. I had no idea why she forgot how to say hello. She was five foot six. Brunette color hair with red tips. She couldnt have been older than 24. She had on these blue jeans, sneakers, and a tank top. Not the kind that showed her mid section. But covered all but the shoulders. Her jacket looked denim. Hey Kylie. You stalking me now? I drank a swig of my bottled water. She looked around. You...live here? Her tone was depressing, and yet concerned like. I explained early home assistance offered me better, but the others didnt have a garage. She smirked, and made a crude remark to the rust bucket I drove. I cut her off asking why she was there. She looked around my kitchen. I was wanting to know what you plan on doing with Nina today. I removed the curtain to the bathroom. Nothing much. Just a chill session. Mind if I shower? She smiled and I could hear her tone change briefly. Not at all. I showered, but she kept talking. Asking me about my hobbies, if I was really 18, and why I chose a night guard position. The Q&A lasted about ten minutes. Once dressed I stepped from my room. I saw her looking me over nibbling on her lower lip, but I didnt care. Then I gained interest in what she said next. You must be hungry. Ever been to a steakhouse? I shook my head. Sadly Kylie. I never did much growing up. I was to busy surviving. While others were getting into relationships. I was training my mind, and body for my future endeavors. She lifted a eyebrow. Her eye brows were thin almost as if penciled in. You never dated? I explained how girls were not on my to do list. She had gotten me into her car. It was a hybrid box looking thing. We drove to this steakhouse and I sat there ordered a 21oz steak with mushrooms. She ordered a steak burger and onion rings. I wasted no time in finishing my meal. She watched in disgust, but asked if she could accompany me to see Nina. I said it was her choice. Curiosity then caught me. Hey Kylie. Whats your story? she looked confused. I asked her how she grew up. Nothing like Nina. I was happy my mom was a hospice nurse, and my dad was a lawyer. Ok so she got the compassion from her mom. Most likely her judgement skills from her blood sucking dad. My cell phone then rang. Kylie asked who it was. I told her Jims auto parts got the part I was after. Took six months but its the last piece. We drove to get the part. I came out of the store with a box no bigger than my hands. She asked what it was. I told her shell have to see. My foster brother Ronald and I focused on keeping out of trouble so we picked up a hobby. We both got jobs at 16 pulled three checks a piece to buy a frame to a car, and we started building it in our spare time. We told each other no matter what. This car was a symbol of our respect and love we had for one another. I held the box in both my hands tight. She asked what happened to Ronald. I explained he reached the age limit, And asked me to finish the car. Make sure I cared for it. It took me two years to finish it. We pulled up to my garage, and I tore that tarp off the car. Kyles eyes widened and jaw dropped. Her eyes followed the curves from bumper to bumper. This was a 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu black with slay red interior. I opened the door and sat down to take out the last piece. She sat down in the passengers seat. I lifted the manual gear shifts new head. It was a black sphere with the letters F.F.E.O. I told her Family Finds Each other. She parked her car out front of my house, and I asked her if she wanted to help break her in. Kylie smiled so brightly and jumped in my passengers seat. Our joy ride was about a hour long. Gave me thirty minutes to get to the hospital. Kylie and I set up a second date after my fourth night of work. Im as nervous as a motivational speaker with stage fright... Im more nervous about Nina. She was the first person to ever knock me out. Coarse Id be scared, happy, and nervous. Feels like my life may be moving on. I might be ok with giving up on the rake. Pulling up to the hospital. I saw that man with the trench coat again. This time smoking a Marlboro cigarette. Still with that grin on his face. Should I be worried?
