Character "It is often said that reputation is what others think you are, but character is what you really are. A person’s character is revealed in their conduct, and their integrity—or lack of integrity—influences the choices they make. It is impossible for a person to be dishonest and still have integrity. The sad truth of that fact is brought to mind with the mere mention of names like Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Jeffery Krusinski, and David Petraeus, to name a few recent disappointments. Yes, the disappointment is even greater when someone has held a position of authority or has been looked up to as a role model or hero. Anyone who has had a good dose of Zig Ziglar books or recordings is well aware that he taught the extreme importance of having integrity. He shared much of what his mother taught him as a child and he was often heard quoting her favorite quip, “Tell the truth and tell it ever, costeth what it will, for he who hides the wrong he did does the wrong thing still.” Then she’d say, “Son, if your word is no good they’ll soon know neither are you!” Taking responsibility for your actions and keeping your word were a few of the basics in Dad’s arsenal of instruction on how to be a person of integrity. Never telling a lie, even a little white one, like telling your children to tell a caller you are not there to take the call, was at the top of his list and doing the next right thing, regardless of the cost financially or personally, was the order of the day. My father is well-respected because he was a man of unquestionable integrity who always went the extra mile to conduct himself in an honorable manner. It was a choice he made. You can make the same choice. Do it today" -Julia Ziglar Norman, motivational speaker and author and a proud daughter of the late legendary Zig Ziglar.
