Charli Kate squatting 115kg at only 47kg bodyweight under the guidance of her coach Nich Rossell. Charli competed at the World Dwarf Games in 2013, representing Aus in a range of sports from track to swimming to soccer. Shes been training at WSSC for close to 12 months and has improved significantly her strength, speed and power. This 115kg effort is Charlis PB. The back squat (and its variations front squat, box squat, sumo squat etc) is one of our KEY bilateral strength exercises. We use it with a range of methods, from high load-slow velocity (max strength focus, as seen in video) to low load-high velocity dynamic effort method (power/speed focus) to ensure we develop the entire force-velocity curve. Athletes are exposed to a range of force/velocity demands in sport. For Charli in particular who competes in a range of sports, its important our training is general enough to cover all demands which may be encountered in sport, but specific enough that there is transfer to the athletic environment. FUN TRIVIA: The national squat record at Charlis bodyweight is 112.5kg!! Note the terrible hi-5 attempt at the end between coach and athlete haha!!
