The article quotes Dr. Viswanath and connects his and many HSPH and other public health researchers work on the negative health effects of economic downturns and poverty. In the article Dr. Viswanath says, “We are fixated on the upstream factors—the recession and its direct economic costs. But the downstream factors—the terrible impact on health—are already far along.”
