Chelsea FC have confirmed the transfer of Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien to Italian club AC Milan. Michael Essien’s eight year stint at Chelsea has reached its conclusion with his move to Italian giants AC Milan. The 31-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge back in 2005 and became an integral part of the Chelsea side which went on to win a number of trophies. In his prime, Essien was widely considered as one of the best central midfielder in the world, but sadly his career has been affected by a lot of injuries. Despite winning so many accolades, there is a feeling that the Ghanaian international has underachieved in his career due to all the fitness concerns. Essien spent last season on loan at Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho and returned to the club with the Portuguese manager this season. His opportunities at Stamford Bridge has been very limited this season as Mourinho has he has found himself behind Ramires, John Obi Mikel and Frank Lampard in the pecking order. Essien has made only two starts in the Premier League this season and now with the arrival of Nemanja Matic his days at London were numbered. Chelsea have now confirmed that they have reached an agreement with AC Milan for the transfer of Michael Essien. He will join the Italian club for free and is expected to sign an eighteen-month contract. Essien will be the first signing of new manager Clarence Seedorf and will look to provide some steel to the Milan midfield, which has been struggling in the league this season. “Chelsea Football Club and AC Milan have reached an agreement for the transfer of Michael Essien to the Serie A side. “Essien has travelled to Italy and the completion of the move is subject to him agreeing personal terms with Milan and passing a medical examination.” – Read an official statement on Chelsea’s website. Michael Essien has expressed his delight at having secured this move and eagerly awaits his debut for the Italian club. “I’m happy to be here. I will do my best for Milan and I hope to be ready to play. “I spoke with Clarence Seedorf two days ago. I cannot wait to be available. “I really want to thank the chairman and the team and thanks to Jose Mourinho, who has allowed me to wear the Rossoneri shirt.” – Essien told the press.
