Chelsea are set to do battle with Portuguese side, Benfica, as they look to land the signing of Sefa Isci from Anderlecht, reports the English media . Isci is just 18 years old, but he has earned a reputation as a rising star following some success in Belgium. However, if Chelsea were to sign the player, then they would most likely introduce him to their notorious loan system. In order to give the player more first team experience, the Blues are likely to secure a temporary deal for him elsewhere on the continent. The Stamford Bridge partner club, Vitesse, look the most likely to land Isci’s services indirectly, should he make the switch to Chelsea. Loaning out their newly acquired talent has become a philosophy of the London club, as they have dealt with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois similarly. Lukaku was in fact bought from Isci’s Anderlecht club as well. The speculation has largely been started by claims made by Isci’s agent, Saffet Balkan. Balkan says, ‘Benfica and Chelsea are interested’ before going on to clarify that Chelsea intend to loan the player to Vitesse. In contrast, Benfica appear to be directly interested in the player, after his agent claims they were impressed with ‘performances against them [Benfica] in the Youth Champion’s League’.
