Chelsea finally get Costa for $52 million Jose Mourinho has finally gotten his hands on the striker that he always wanted, Diego Costa, from Atletico Madrid and Chelsea had to pay the full buy-out clause of the Spanish striker. They paid $52 million, from which Costa’s first club, Braga of Portugal will receive 20%, as will Celta Vigo. Another of his former clubs, Real Valladolid will get 0.5% for their part in developing the Spain international. The EPL side confirmed the purchase in a statement that read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa, with Chelsea meeting the buy-out clause for the Spanish international.” Atletico also released a statement in which they wished the striker the best of luck in his future endeavours after Costa “communicated his wish to be transferred to Chelsea FC at the end of last season”. “Both entities have reached an agreement whereby the London club is liable to meet the full amount of the buy-out clause. We wish the best of luck to the football player in this next step of his professional career. Chelsea will be hoping that Costa can mirror his 27 league goals for the London club in the 2014/15 season that kicks off on August 16.
