This one-day workshop will take place on September 14 in Nashville, TN. Strong composition will take you on the first step to a painting that is “something more.” What do I mean by “something more?” At a recent figurative open studio, a model asked wat we intended to do with our paintings. There was a pause, then a murmur of voices—”hmm, just practice”—”a study, I guess.” Finally, a brave and honest artist said, “It’s practice unless it’s good enough to be something more.” We’ll start with discussion of design approaches. Next, we’ll compaose and paint a still life in the studio, and then after lunch, head to Warner Park to paint a landscape—perhaps a landscape that has “something more.”
