This free performance, which marks the start of Festa Muti—Maestro Muti’s inaugural month at the artistic helm of the CSO—supports Muti’s vision to deepen and expand the Orchestra’s ongoing initiatives to engage the community and reach as broad an audience as possible. This celebratory concert is a unique opportunity for people from all over the city and surrounding suburbs to experience Riccardo Muti’s first performance as music director of the CSO. Also integral to Maestro Muti’s vision for his tenure with the CSO is his commitment to advocating participation in music and encouraging young musicians to pursue their talents. Beginning at 2 p.m. that day, ensembles from Chicago-area youth music programs, schools and partners of the CSO will perform throughout Millennium Park, culminating with a performance in the pavilion at 4:30 p.m. by members of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Children’s Chorus. The CSO performance begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. ABOUT RICHARD MUTI Born in Naples, Italy, RICCARDO MUTI first came to the attention of critics and public in 1967, when he won the Guido Cantelli Competition for conductors in Milan.
