Child Abuse and Neglect Ahmad is the name of a child who was physically, emotionally and psychologically maltreated (abused and neglected) by his father and step mother last month in Kirkuk City. His poor little young sister had already been physically abused before she moved into her uncles house. Reports show that his step mother is a teacher in one of the primary schools in the city. According to Awena and other social medias in Kurdistan region, his father had already experienced domestic violence himself and I wonder why domestic violence usually passes down from one generation to another. Ahmad is now under the medical, physical and physiological treatment in Kirkuk hospital and thanks to local people, police, Kirkuk governor and the hospital staff, he is expecting a full treatment and recovery from his injuries. This young, 9 year old child has asked the police not to let him get back home after his recovery and also to punish his parents for stopping him from going to school, he insists on returning to his primary school. The child care section of social affairs institute has promised to take care and transfer him to child care center after his recovery. I wonder why domestic violence often passes down from one generation to another. The vast majority of the victims of Kurdish domestic violence are women and children, and children are also considerably more likely to experience repeated and severe forms of violence, abuse and neglect. Finally, I think, to stop this from happening ever again, there are some single solutions: school teachers like Ahmads step mother should be banned from teaching in schools by the local government in Kirkuk City. What is more, for any single punishment, both parents are to face an appropriate punishment for abusing their children. Also, to help reducing the child maltreatment, the social media, and child practitioners, play a key role in raising the awareness in the field of childrens rights.
