Child obesity and physical activity: According to the World Health - TopicsExpress

Child obesity and physical activity: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), childhood obesity is one of the most serious public health challenges of the 21st century. So the WHO recommends 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity every day for children aged 5-18. Moderate activity includes activities that raise the heart rate and cause some breathlessness e.g. brisk walking, playing badminton, bicycling. Vigorous activity is exercises that make people huff and puff e.g. organized sports such as football and netball, as well as activities such as ballet, running and swimming laps etc. Activities for children should be fun and age appropriate; in addition families should also be active together because parents are the most important agents of lifestyle change.
