China and the US achieved detente in 1972 because they both felt threatened by the former Soviet Union. Back then it was a move out of necessity. Today there is no common threat to push the US and Iran together in a Nixon-style strategy shift. That being said, I believe that Iran should not try to become the "China of the Middle East" but rather should strive to regain its former glory as an immensely successful civilization.
