Chinook is available for adoption! You can submit your application to adopt him by visiting austinboxerrescue! Chinook came to ABR in early September from the Wichita Falls area as a stray. He is now 9 months old and heart worm negative. Chinook had a Femoral Head Osteotomy to repair his broken hip (and neuter) on Monday, 9/8; this basically reshapes the hip ball and socket. He was on strict crate rest with potty walks only until 9/22 when he got to take his cone off and begin several rehabilitation walks per day. He was seen again on 10/8 and is progressing very well. This procedure and process has been done very successfully by ABR with several other fosters who not only got to keep their legs, but show little or no negative effects once they rebuild muscle tone. He will be evaluated again on 10/23 to see if he can be released from rehab. Chinook is house trained and crate trained, running into his crate for “naptime” and a treat. He is very good on leash once hes over the excitement of being sprung from his crate. He has a very short, mahogany colored coat with a white Rorschach splash on his chest, a beautiful black mask and amber eyes. He loves to be praised and petted and is so far calm for a 9 month old although he is engaging his 4 fur buddies in play more and more, within his rehab limits. He has the cutest gremlin face and loves to give tiny nose nibbles with his kisses. He is a small male, about 45 pounds, with natural ears and full tail that forms a corkscrew when hes really happy. He lives with 2 female Boxers, a male Boxer and a male Boxer mix and is aching to get out and run with them. They have been very gentle with him during his rehabilitation. He recently met 2 of the young neighborhood boys and now looks for them on each outing. He has not met a cat. He learns quickly and worked on commands to occupy him during his rehabilitation. Hes not reluctant to tell his foster parents when he disagrees with his restrictions. Chinook is an adorable 9 month old Boxer puppy with all the charm and exuberance they bring. He is learning skills from his fur buddies; like not biting too hard, taking turns for treats and how to walk properly on leash. He really needs a little older fur friend to help him catch up with some of the stuff he missed while being crated for so long. He is very obedient and very attached to his foster dad. He would do great with a kid or 2, some fur friends, and a family with the patience and experience to help him gradually get up to full speed. Goodness knows hes ready.
