Chishala Kateka writes LET THE HEALING BEGIN!!!! I know that I am going ahead of myself and the official results. The elections have come and the results are to be announced today. During the last 3 months, we saw an unprecedented level of engagement in the political process by politicians and on the sidelines, mostly via social media and at rallies, by the electorate. There was a lot of drama in the run up to the elections in the PF and MMD camps. In spite of the drama in the PF, their candidate has still managed to scoop the presidency, largely due to the incumbency of the party. The MMD on the other hand has come out of this......well, let the results inform you. The UPND probably mounted the best campaign. It was very well organised and coordinated, well funded, disciplined and professional. I am not UPND but simply giving credit where it id due. We can (and we should) learn some lessons from their campaign just as we learnt some lessons from old man Satas campaign. But that is the subject of another post. The elections have left many hurting hearts - in all political parties - including the PF itself. In the UPND, many feel cheated especially as the win was tantalisingly close after mounting such a good campaign. My advise to you is please please, do not be bitter. The loss of an election, especially after you have put in your best, is very hurtful, frustrating, makes you angry. You fell like a jilted person... as though a close person has betrayed you. Many, in all political parties spent their personal funds, put in their time and sacrificed for their preferred candidates. My advise is, please let it go. In future when you do enter the fray, when you decide to put in, give with the expectation of expecting nothing back. Give with your whole heart with an attitude of service. If you do this, you will not feel a sense of loss...because you let go when you gave. The tribalism and name calling. Dear Zambians, especially those on social media. While you are busy getting really angry and calling the next person names, the politicians themselves play to the gallery but behind the curtain, they are cordial to one another. Do not be fooled and do not allow the politicians and politics devide us. In fact, we as Zambians ought to close ranks, then the politicians will not take advantage of us. Please let us not provoke one another after these elections. Rather let us sympathise with and love one another. The next person is no less a person because of their tribe or party affiliation. God still loves them. Please, let us act maturely. Resist that temptation to make that disparaging remark - regardless of whether you are on the losing side or the winning side. You see, it is also easy to make a sharp remark because you have lost and are hurting. Dont. Withdraw, reflect and allow God to heal you. God bless Zambia and her people.
