Choum reap sour friends and family. Just a quick update from Siem Reap, Cambodia. We have been staying at the Tom and Jerry hostel for 3 nights in the busy Angkormarket food filled streets. The second day we arrived, we threw ourselves into a 10 hour visit to the beautiful picturesque Angkor Wat temple as well as visiting the neighbouring temples all the way up to Banteay Srei, 37 km from Siem Reap by tuk- tuk. At Banteay Srei, we came across a very beautiful girl whose mother was working at the market, Mayk captured the beautiful girl on camera, she was wearing a I love Cambodia t shirt with the temple featuring behind her. However this scene was followed by a harsh contrast. A young woman was walking in the market with a burnt face and struggled to walk, this scene made Mayk and I realise the harsh reality that the Khmer people suffered under the Red Khmer ruling. This young woman was not the only person who suffered in this area, many locals were aporoaching us with missing limbs in this particular area. After our long day, we walked away with such kowledge from Angkor Wat and soaked up the history of what is to be the most religious building in the world, with the help of a guide. We understood that the Temple took only 37 years to build and so within the temple there are many clues that demonstrate this ( Jean- Marc, the temple was built faster than your Mezzanine, you better finnish this before we get back!). The temple is thought to be the gateway to heaven with 37 levels of stairs leading up to heaven and 32 levels of stairs leading down to hell. Mayk and I walked up the 75 degree stair incline to acess the main body of the temple but felt sick the entire time. The rain has been with us for most days in Cambodia but this is has not stopped our daily activities, rather it is refreshing in 31 degrees temperatures. We have met a lovely french couple who we might decide to take a boat trip down to Baatabong with a local fisherman and from thete slowly make our way down to Pnom Penh. All for now, photos to follow. Kisses from Mayk and Gabriella
