Chris Davis – Real Deal POSTED BY THE PENCIL ⋅ MAY 31, 2013 ⋅ LEAVE A COMMENT FILED UNDER BALTIMORE ORIOLES, CHRIS DAVIS Chris Davis WE ALWAYS HEAR the line about guys being Quad A players, guys who dominated the minors but couldn’t transfer that talent to the big show. Certainly Chris Davis was a player who was hit with that tag but was it a bit pre-mature? Chris Davis had just over 1,800 minor league at bats, so here I breakdown those 6 minor league seasons into roughly 3 complete seasons with 600 at bats. Here’s what the average of those three seasons look like. 604 at bats 39 home runs 53 BB 164 K .320/.383 Now if we take his 190 at bats this season and times them by 3 giving him 570 at bats, here’s what the number look like. 570 at bats 57 home runs 87 BB 144 K .353/.441 Now if Chris Davis was 31 and held the Quad A label for 5-6 years now then it would be a lot easier to say that Davis is playing well over his head but Davis just got his 1st opportunity to play a full season last year at 26. The power has always been big-time real but his other minor league numbers have been very good as well. When a player has tremendous power and the confidence of a full time job other things can begin to turn that player from a Quad A to a legit star. Along with that confidence here come much better walk rates and respect at the plate, better OBP and everything that comes with that mental part of the game that affects the opposing pitchers confidence. Looking at Chris Davis’s numbers in the minors compared to his numbers so far in 2013 the walks are coming, the power is capable of 50+ homers, the average is sure to come down but an OBP around .400 is legit, yeah I’d have to say that Chris Davis is in fact the REAL DEAL. If somebody in your league doesn’t believe, pounce!
