Christian Character If you have the Spirit of God in you, you should also have the character of Jesus Christ. Character is shown through your morals, integrity, and attitude. It is a combination of traits and qualities within your behavior that show people who you are. You are identified by your character. And since your Christian identity is holy Christian character is the foundation for Holy living. Living holy is what separates Christians from the world. Living holy identifies you as belonging to God, set apart for God, and striving to be pure and Godly. It is your responsibility to pursue a holy life style. Holy living is living by the Spirit and keeping your mind and heart focused on pleasing Jesus Christ. It is choosing to love everyone. It is choosing to be patient and peaceful with everyone. It is choosing to have unlimited faith and self-control in every situation. Holy is perfection. Of course we are not perfect, but we are constantly striving for perfection in Christ Jesus. That is why in the book of Psalms it is written “The Lord our God is Holy”. The life of Jesus Christ is the perfect example of holy living. That is why holy living starts with the development of your Christian character. In order for you to develop Christian character you must obey the commandments and communicate with God. When you obey Gods commandments your actions are in line with God’s word. However, obeying the commandments is not enough. Your motives for obeying the commandments have to be in harmony with the Holy Spirit also. As the scripture says, “So as a man thinks in his heart so is he”. Your thoughts and the motivation in your heart must be set on Jesus Christ and doing the will of God. In order for you to be in harmony with the Holy Spirit you have to communicate with God. You communicate by reading the word of God and through prayer. The bible is the word of God. Before you read the bible pray and ask God to reveal to you what you need to know. Keep the word of God in your mind, heart and on the tip of your tongue. What you put inside your mind and heart will eventually show in your words and behavior. When you are trying to live Holy you have to read the bible and pray. You must pray so you are able to apply the word of God to your life. Pray and ask God for the right attitude. Pray and ask God to change your language and to give you the correct responses in difficult situations. Pray and ask God to change how you interact with people and to give you the power to resist temptation. Christian character is your thoughts, words, and actions shining as a light for Jesus Christ. The way people see Jesus Christ in you is in your character. Don’t bring shame to the name of Jesus Christ by the way you treat people.
