Christianity is known for the symbolism of the Cross: people wear - TopicsExpress

Christianity is known for the symbolism of the Cross: people wear crosses as jewelry, have crucifixes in their homes, and nearly every church has a cross whether on the outside or inside. - Its important to acknowledge that the Cross isnt simply a religious or fashion symbol. Its a reality. Jesus was actually crucified. As a fully human person, Jesus suffered. he was beaten, tortured and then nailed to a cross, the most agonizing way the Roman authorities had devised for capital punishment. There, according to the Gospels, He hung for three hours. Victims of crucifixion died either from loss of blood or, more commonly, asphyxiation, as the weight of their bodies pulled on their wrists, compressed their lungs and made breathing impossible. - The Cross is a reality today too. From our own sufferings in our lives, to the glorious, faith-filled Iraqi Christians who literally are crucified under ISIS, the Cross is there to show us- suffering is real. We shouldnt seek out suffering by any means; it will come to us enough. The way to peace in life is not by avoiding suffering, but rather by accepting it as a reality, and bracing it as a way of becoming closer to our God, who actually and truly suffered. - Yet, we bear our sufferings with patience and courage, for as Easter Sunday shows us: suffering never has the final word. - We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you; for by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world. - St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696 - 1787)
