Christians Chronicles No goals that are set by others will be pursued with the same energy and verosity as the goals you set for yourself. Im reminded of a woman that I was working with whose son was struggling in school. He was a C student. She had tried everything from punishing to rewarding him with gifts. None of it worked. Although her son was in the 7th grade he knew his dream was to build the most beautiful buildings in the world. With this knowledge she tried a different way to motivate her son. She took him to the Willis tower in Chicago. After they finished looking out of the coin operated binoculars at the top of the building she mentioned to her son that an architect designed this building. With this information her son looked up at her and smiled saying Really? Next she took him to the architecture department at the nearest university and had him sit in the front row while she played the role of the professor as he commonest to ask questions. It became clear to her that the little boy was beginning to think about his future in a whole new way. Soon after her son asked How can I build a building like that? How can I sit in a class room and ask questions like that? She looked down at her son and said Once you know what an architect knows, you will be an architect. The message was understood clearly by her son. In the weeks, months, and years to follow his attitude changed. His grades dramatically improved. I am sharing this story to illustrate the fact that in all of my years of training I have not and can not motivated anyone. What I have done is to inspire people to motivate themselves. We all have greatness in us and abilities greater then our wildest dreams. You can loose weight, you can jump higher and run further. Look deep inside and you will find a cave full of motivation that can only be mined by you. See you in class!
