Christmas Greetings, friends and family! To say that this year - TopicsExpress

Christmas Greetings, friends and family! To say that this year was eventful would be quite an understatement. God is so good and has shown Himself to be so faithful once again! Whether we were enjoying time together as a busy family or undergoing medical care, He was with us. He has always been the thread that runs through our lives and will be for all eternity. He is the reason for this season and EVERY season! We hope that your family will enjoy the gift of His love this Christmas. Davis Family 2014 January— Sadie was in the play You Can’t Take it With You at Jefferson Forest High School. Holly had her 16th embolization procedure on the AVM in her brain. February— The whole family saw one of our favorite bands, Switchfoot, perform in concert. Holly had a second round of Gamma Knife Radiation in an attempt to demolish the AVM. March— The family traveled to New York City for Sadie’s “sweet 16” birthday, and saw a performance of Cinderella on Broadway. April— Michael & Holly attended a conference at the Thomas E. Dewey Center at Pawling, New York. The conference was on the impact of journalism on America in the 1940s and 1950s. At LU, Michael won one of the Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching awards (and a prize of $2,000). May— Michael & Holly celebrated their 20th anniversary a month early by spending 2 weeks in Italy, Greece, and Turkey. The two lovebirds spent a week on the Aegean Sea. The trip also marked Michael’s first trip by air. Nanny and Poppy, meanwhile, stayed with the three girls in Lynchburg, enjoying time together at nearby “Walton’s Mountain Museum” in neighboring Nelson County. June— Michael & Holly celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary back in the United States, and visited family in Arkansas. July— The whole family hiked along the Little Red River, and to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain in Heber Springs, Arkansas and spent some time with Holly’s family and her Papaw Willard. Later in the month, the family spent a few days relaxing in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island. August— Everyone started back to school. Sadie is a junior at Jefferson Forest High School, Shiloh is in the 8th grade at Forest Middle School and Savannah is in the 4th grade at Boonsboro Elementary. Michael insists on returning to college! ;) His historiographical essay on “Politics in the 1930s” was published as part of a larger volume for Kent State University Press on FDR and the Great Depression. September— Michael presented a paper on “‘The American Dream Gone Berserk’: Elvis Presley and American Popular Culture, 1954-1956” at the Danforth Conference in New York. Shiloh, meanwhile, began her first season playing soccer for Forest Youth Athletic Association. Finally, Savannah began piano lessons. Both girls excelled at their new endeavors. October— Sadie played “Marjorie Baverstock” in the high school play, Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, a role that landed her a brief interview on local radio. She was absolutely “davoone”! Sadie also starred in a one-act production entitled Something’s Rotten in the State of Denmark for JF that competed around the state at various the levels. The team did very well, coming in tied for first at regionals and placing second in the state! November— The family celebrated a quiet Thanksgiving at home with MUCH to be thankful for. Michael’s first book, Politics as Usual: Thomas Dewey, Franklin Roosevelt, and the Wartime Presidential Campaign of 1944, was released by Northern Illinois University Press. December— The family enjoyed a slower schedule at the girls’ schools and activities. We all had ministry opportunities through our church, Thomas Road and Christmas Cares. Holly and the girls hosted the second annual Christmas Coffee outreach in our home, sharing her testimony with neighbors and friends in the community. At the time this letter was written, Savannah is preparing for her first piano recital on December 16. Meanwhile, Michael and Nanny are studying to defend their title of champion on the Elvis Quiz Show which will take place on December 19 at Graceland in Memphis, TN. My question is, will Elvis ever leave the building?!
