Christmas Message from the Mayor of Clonmel/Cahir Borough - TopicsExpress

Christmas Message from the Mayor of Clonmel/Cahir Borough District, Cllr. Martin Lonergan Christmas is a very special time. It’s a time for family and friends to come together and reflect on the year gone by and to contemplate the New Year that awaits us. As we all join together with our loved ones this Christmas let us take time out to think of those less fortunate than ourselves, those who are sick, our family members and friends who may be overseas and to those who, for one reason or another, are unable to be with their loved ones this Christmas. We remember, in a special way our family members, neighbours and friends who have died and passed to their eternal reward in heaven, Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha. Christmas is also a time for giving and receiving, a time for sharing and for caring for each other. It’s a time for reaching out the hand of friendship and reconciliation and to making sure all members of our community are included. I want to sincerely thank all those who have contributed to the Mayors Christmas Fund this year, and through the Charities I have selected, my hope is that it will contribute in some small way, to help those who are struggling to meet the additional costs associated with Christmas in our communities this year. I am deeply honoured to have been elected the first Mayor of the newly formed Clonmel/Cahir Borough District. I have met so many people and have been touched by the great warmth and generosity of spirit, which this District represents. On a personal note, I would like to extend a sincere thanks to everyone for the warm and friendly support I have received since being elected to Tipperary County Council. We thank those who work in and support our Communities on a daily basis in service of the public. I refer to those in our Emergency Services, our Hospitals, our Schools and our Civic and Statutory Agencies. I have been particularly impressed by the amount of good work that goes on in our towns and villages by the many voluntary community and sporting groups that we have. I have been delighted to attend functions over the past few months and witnessed at first hand the amount of hard work and organisation that has gone into getting various projects off the ground. I have also been inspired by the many people whom I have met and spoken to and who have displayed a remarkable ability to do what needs to be done on a day to day basis for the good of their families, neighbours and communities. Voluntary and community groups are the heartbeat of all our communities. I pledge to do all we can to support your work so that you can continue to play a pivotal role in our society. Finally, if travelling over the festive season, please take extra care on our roads. On behalf of the Councillors of the Borough District and staff, I wish you and your families a safe, peaceful and joyful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Le gach dea-ghui i gcomhair na nollag agus na h-ath bhliana, Councillor Martin Lonergan Mayor of Clonmel/Cahir Borough District
