Christmas... Words wont cover the gratitude. Family in Kentucky, family in Illinois....Kentucky family in Illinois. Steph, Brian and I were able to be home (Astoria) for Christmas for the first time with Dad in 31 years. Now that we accomplished that Im left to wonder why. O I know the reasons.......life, jobs and children, expensive holidays but just doesnt seem like good enough reasons now. No one complained, we did what we did and time passed us by. Happens to most of us and happens frequently. We have more time than needed. We just dont use it wisely. Dad called his brothers and sisters....Grandma too. Steph had to cancel some plans and leave earlier to not pass Brian in Indiana...but we made it happen. And it was Grandma Shawgos 83rd birthday. Then another realization hit......I had never celebrated her birthday with her. 83 of her years, 44 of mine. I took off early Saturday to gather birthday festivities. Cupcakes to bake, balloons, card, gifts and a birthday girl ribbon. She dont need or want all that........maybe not. But I wanted her to feel like the birthday girl. Without doubt or controversy you are born on your birthday. It should be celebrated above all other celebrations. 5 of her 6 children made it......that hadnt happened in we forgot when. Steph and family made it at 4. Brian wasnt leaving until 8. A 4 hr window. And the afternoon was perfect. Dad and Grandma both wore smiles that I will forever carry in my heart. What I know.....we have to take the time. Schedule it, make it as important as any other plan we manage to accomplish. Put old grudges and grievances aside if they exist and Take The Time. Too many times Ive heard........well catch them next time....week....year. Time is not a guarantee. Neither is life. Hello 2015......Take The Time. Youll hear this from me repeatedly this year. Ill be weighing on family for visits.....here and there. I want cherished memories. I want to be able to reflect on those cherished memories when our time is over. I hope it will cause you to look at your time, your family. Its ticking...........Will you Take The Time?
