Christmas is not a civil holiday. Or it before it became a civil - TopicsExpress

Christmas is not a civil holiday. Or it before it became a civil observance, it is FIRST an ecclesial celebration. It is a HOLY DAY, not a holiday, because it is the birth of the Lord. It is the Blessed Incarnation of the Son of God. Because it is the Church who initiated its celebration, it is the Church, too, that determines when and how it should be celebrated. The Church already instituted that Advent precedes Christmas. Let us, therefore, go through Advent first before we begin celebrating Christmas. Let those among us who have the benefit of catechesis catechize. There is virtue in waiting. Hope is one of the three cardinal virtues. Advent is hope-filled waiting. It is an important season just as Christmas is. Let us not give reasons to our rushing into Christmas in the Philippines as soon as the ber months begin. We are doing injustice to Christmas. We are not being fair with God, too. For God also waited before Christmas. Jesus, too, had His Advent season prior to His Holy Birth. And the Lord spent thousands of years for His Advent while we only four weeks! Yet we take it for granted. And so many of our Christmasses remain shallow and fleeting. We fail to wait. We forget to hope. We jump on the Gift but brush aside the Giver. Let us not be naive. We are very wrong to begin Christmas in September. +
