Christmas trees made of recycled materials amaze spectators at the Provincial Capitol By Jimmy Sta. Cruz PGO Media Center AMAS, Kidapawan City (Dec.10) – An array of skillfully crafted Christmas trees made from waste materials are now beautifully displayed at the Provincial Capitol Lobby and continue to surprise a lot of viewers. The Christmas trees are entries to this year’s contest where Gov. Emmylou “Lala” J. Taliño-Mendoza once more enjoined every department of the Provincial Capitol and every government office within to conceptualize a recyclable material-inspired Christmas tree. With the theme “Krismas Tri ng Kapayapaan, Hatid ay Saya sa Sanlibutan”, the contest aims to enhance Solid Waste Management awareness, creativity and teamwork among employees and to strengthen the Recycle/Reduce/Reuse or 3 R’s while advocating for 100% segregation of solid waste. The mechanics of the Christmas Tree Making contest comprise the following - one entry per office, maximum height of 5 feet and 3 feet width, only recyclable waste materials from office (such as office supplies ) will be utilized in making the Christmas tree but Christmas lights and other glitters are allowed to make the entry more eye-catching. Gov. Taliño-Mendoza said the recyclable waste material-inspired Christmas trees would resemble the Filipino value of frugality and the ability of the people to generate ideas. The Christmas trees are also great symbol of peace and harmony among different groups of people in the province, the governor also said. The different offices of the Provincial Capitol such as the Provincial Budget Office, Provincial Accounting Office, Provincial Assessor’s Office, Provincial Human Resource and Management Office, Provincial Treasurer’s Office, Provincial Planning and Development Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Provincial General Services Office, Provincial Engineer’s Office, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Provincial Cooperative Development Office, Provincial Governor’s Office and the Cotabato District Jail. Other government offices located within the Provincial Capitol perimeter also joined the contest including the Department of Education, National Irrigation Administration, Land Bank of the Philippines and others. Deadline of entries will be on or before 4:30PM of Dec. 8 and the judging and declaration of winners will be on Dec. 16 while the awarding of prizes will be on Dec. 22, 2014 which is also the date for the Provincial Capitol employees’ Christmas party. The entries will be judged on the following criteria – Relevance to the Theme (20%), Creativity (20%), Originality (20%), Craftsmanship (20%) and Overall Appearance (20%) or a total of 100%. A cash prize of P10,000.00 awaits the first prize winner, P8,000 for the second prize and P6,000 for the third prize plus Certificates of Recognition while non-winners will be given P1,000 each as consolation prizes.
