Chuck Desmond and I drove to Alemeda/Berkley yesterday and picked up the restored to ridable condition Big Wheel bicycle that my grand father Clark S Smith rode from Oakland to Paso Robles in 1893. We tied it upright in the back of my truck and drove the 240 miles back to Paso Robles. People on the trip back would honk, wave, grin and give us thumbs up. If we stopped for fuel or food, people would gather around the truck and stare at it. We were asked if we were American Pickers a number of times. Great and fun day. Past president and museum volunteer Chuck Desmond organized the restoration and gathered $3,000 in donations to cover the 2 year project.
