Circa 1977- Just got hired by promoter Randy Shapiro as a back stage security guard. Black Oak Arkansas concert.Im standing next to promoter when out of nowhere I hear I love you Jim Dandy - I love you Jim Dandy (The drummer of Black Oak Ark) well this 65 cut up guy is running towards the band while they are playing. I hit him with a cross-body block just as he steps up on the riser 5 ft from Jim Dandy. I knock him out! The promoter yells I want him backstage at all of my concerts. I worked approx. 20 concerts after that. My highlight being two Stones concerts at the Civic Center, St. Paul . Stones concert with Rufus (Chaka Kahn) front band. Stones personal security about six X Green Berets. Leader tells me and my friend a rookie to the rock & roll scene- but a big boy-to guard stairs leading up to 10 chairs to sit and watch groups. To be admitted to this section required a plastic card hung around neck.We are positioned on each side of stairs. A few VIPs come & go. Well here comes Jagger with his 6*5 personal 5th degree Black-Belt brother bodyguard. Obviously Mick & protector not carrying any ID. Ten feet away I catch my friends body language that hes going to ID Jagger. Jagger picks up on this also. Well as they get near I reach out and grab my buddies arms and say thats OK Jim. Jagger smiles and says Im feeling a whole lot better about my security - enjoy the show.
