Circle and rainbow in the sky. It was fine day yesterday and a rare meteorogical phenomenon appeared in the skies over the Hongkong and shenzhen yesterday morning when the holes in the skies beggan appearing in the middle of thick white clouds and sunrise. Yes its rare to see this such phenonmenon and also its my first time I ever seen this... The circular and elliptical holes known as fallstreak holes or hole punch clouds were seen over new territories as well as in Nanshan districts of Shenzhen for about 2 hours. It started to appeared in the sky between 7 am to 9am. In Tuen Mun, I saw 4 holes in the sky, 1 small and 3 big holes. The first hole is small and it is not really obvious, the 2nd hole is the biggest hole sorrounded by white thick clouds it appearss between 7:30 to 8 am and disappearing slowly. The 3rd holes was surounded by thin clouds and a rays of sunlight. And the 4th clouds followed,and the rainbow appeared in the middle of holes. It says that when the holes were formed when altoucumulous clouds, sheets of rounded cloud masses, at temperature below zero degrees celcius were distributed by air current movements such as passing of aircraft. In general if the disturbsnce occurs at the height of such vlouds, some water droplets will become ice crystals. Rainbow will appears (as seen in the pictures) eithin the fallstreak holes when sunlight is reflected off the ice crystals. (The first small and the 2nd hole I didnt get a chance to capture coz i dont bring snything to capture when I gone out)
