City Life and Work in the Big City Almost all newly graduates want to work in the big city. They often dream of working in one of the tallest buildings in the world, as they enjoy the city life. These young and unemployed college graduates have high hopes of finding a good-paying job that can sustain their stay in the city. As soon as they graduate, they leave their hometown and pack for the big city. Filled with enthusiasm and hope, they search for work. They go from one job interview to the other. Even if they don’t get hired in their company of choice, they’re still hopeful to find a job soon. Their budget is running low. They need to spend for food, transportation and rent. Yet they seem hypnotized with the city life, enduring the tough times. Both newly graduates and professionals seeking a change in their career are attracted by the big city. Every one is drawn to the city life, though the cost of living is relatively expensive. When a person’s salary and expenses are computed, he/she has barely any money left. It takes good budgeting skills and working on two jobs to survive the city life. If working in the city isn’t all too glamorous and the pay isn’t that attractive, why do people stay? Most young people stay, to experience the city life. They work hard, to make ends meet in the city. They also prefer to work in the big city because there’s more opportunity. Often these young people want to experience living in a fast-paced and modern place. Experiencing the city life allows young people to become independent. The big city is tough. They are required to do things on their own, like cook their own meals and do their own laundry. But the life lessons a person acquires while living in the big city is priceless. If a person survives working in the big city, then he/she can overcome any hardships in life. It’s like an examination, where a person’s decision making and budgeting skills are tested. So, with all the hype about city life and working in the big city, is it really worth it? The city life may not be for everyone, but it’s a priceless experience that can teach valuable life lessons. The number one consideration before trying this hype, is a person’s current situation like, can he/she afford to live in the big city while job hunting? Does he/she have enough savings to make ends meet till he/she finds a job? These are realistic questions a person must ask himself or herself before deciding to work in the big city. Setting realistic goals and planning are both important. A person, who intends to work in the big city, needs to plan how he/she is going to pay for the bills and personal expenses. He/she needs to realize that the city life isn’t all about partying and spending. It’s definitely challenging and filled with problems every now and then. It will test a person’s common sense and the ability to adapt to a new environment. But the city life experience is very much rewarding.
