City of Toronto Media Relations has issued the following: ==================================== News Release: December 2, 2013 Toronto now accepts email submissions for building permits and has expanded the Residential FASTRACK Program Today, the Toronto Building Division begins accepting email submissions for customers applying for building permits and making building service requests. These service enhancements will improve and modernize our operations, said Councillor Peter Milczyn (Ward 5 Etobicoke-Lakeshore), Chair of the Planning and Growth Management Committee. Allowing applications to be made via email makes the application process more accessible to our customers, and aims to save Torontonians valuable time and money. We are very excited to be able to provide an email application option to many of our clients, said Ann Borooah, Torontos Chief Building Official. This new service channel expands the options for applying to Toronto Building and improves client access to our services. Residents and businesses are now able to submit applications for a number of building, mechanical and plumbing permits by email. A complete list of Toronto Building services available through this channel, along with information on submission requirements, is available on the Toronto Building web page at toronto.ca/building. This new service channel option for permit applications and service requests is part of the divisions Electronic Service Delivery Program. The objective of the program is to enhance accessibility to existing municipal services by allowing clients to access them from anywhere at any time. In addition, customers can now apply at any Toronto Building Customer Service counter to make an application for any of these services. Formerly, applicants were required to make the application at the civic centre in the district where the property is located. If applying in person, a rewritable DVD containing all the necessary materials for the eligible service requests will be required. No paper copies are required for applications eligible for this program. Toronto Building has also expanded the list of projects eligible for the Residential FASTRACK Program, an enhanced building permit service for certain types of projects in existing houses containing one or two dwelling units. Eligible applications are typically reviewed within five business days. The following projects are now eligible for Residential FASTRACK: • additions with cumulative areas up to 100m2 (square metres) on all floor levels – was previously 50m2 on ground floor only • second suite to residential dwellings • conversion from up to three residential units to a single family dwelling • fire damage repairs • plumbing permits for residential dwellings • HVAC for Residential FASTRACK permits after issuance of related building permits These projects are part of the Residential FASTRACK program, which was introduced in 2006: • minor interior alterations • decks, verandas, porches and canopies • garages and carports • accessory structures (such as gazebos and storage sheds) • basement entrances, underpinning • pool fence enclosures • revisions to Residential FASTRACK Permits More information is available at toronto.ca/building.
