City traffic: Roads have started closing in the Sydney CBD for Australia Day celebrations. Motorists are advised to avoid these areas and take advantage of extra trains and buses running instead. Parts of Macquarie Street, Hunter Street, College Street and other roads around Hyde Park are closed until 6pm. In Circular Quay, parts of Alfred Street and Loftus Street are closed until 1pm. As a result, buses are diverting and using different bus stops. In The Rocks, George Street is closed between Hickson Road and Lower Fort Street until 11pm. A number of special event clearways are also in place in these areas, so motorists should check signs before parking as vehicles left in these clearways will be towed and fees apply. Catching a train or bus is the best way to get to the celebrations, as well as Symphony in the Domain which starts at 8pm at The Domain, especially with additional services running into and out of the city. Circular Quay, Town Hall and Wynyard are the closest train stations to the Australia Day events, while Martin Place and St James are the closest to The Domain. Sydney Ferries services will be very busy and are expected to fill up quickly, so anyone who does decide to catch a ferry is advised to have a back up plan. As well, F7 Eastern Suburbs (Watsons Bay/Rose Bay) services will not operate today due to the Ferrython. Anyone heading to the Australia Day concert off Blues Point Reserve today is advised to catch the train or bus to North Sydney and walk down Blues Point Road as roads in North Sydney will be closed between 11am and 3pm.
