Civil rights groups and the Opposition have opposed proposals to change security laws in the country. However, Christian churches supported them and asked the National Assembly to enact them with speed e.g 1.Powers to the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to arrest and detain terror suspects for one year.2.Give powers to NIS to tap and intercept your communication without a court order3.The bill also limits media freedom by imposing hefty fines and jail terms for publication of stories on security operations without police approval and publishing of photos of terror victims without authority from security forces.
