Civil rights leader Julian Bond pens a guest column in The Hollywood Reporter to say that despite Saturday Night Lives long history of using race-based jokes in inappropriate and harmful ways, he is optimistic for whats ahead with new hire Sasheer Zamata - #SNLs first Black woman cast member in seven years. Along with Zamata, the recent addition of Black women writers LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones not only fills an important gap in the shows talent and perspective, but also gives SNL a critical opportunity to influence the broader media landscape by committing to more authentic and complex portrayals of Black women.
