Class List Winter/Spring 2015 Cast-On and Bind-Off: Always wanted to make a Provisional cast-on? A Picot edge? An I-Cord cast on and cast-off? Maybe the “very stretchy bind-off” for the cowl you are making? Refine your finished edges and create beautiful beginnings and endings. Iris will lead you through the process of making an assortment of different edgings. Bring a worsted weight yarn and a size #7-8 US needle (DPN and circular if you have ) and a comparable crochet hook. Classes held on Tuesdays: January 27th and February 3rd, from 4:30 to 6:00pm. Cost: $25 Introduction to Knitting: Beginners wanted. Learn how to cast-on, knit and purl. After this class you are ready for your first project, a scarf. Anne will lead you in the fundamentals of beginning knitting and how to decode yarn labels. Classes held on Wednesdays: February 4th and 11th, from 4:00 to 5:30pm. Cost: $25 Introduction to Lace – Knit “the Noble Cowl”: Quick and easy, learn the intricacies of lace knitting with the gentle guidance of Iris. A DK yarn with a size #6 US needle is recommended, Road to China Light would be perfect. Classes held on Thursdays: January 29th and February 5th from 4:30 to 6:00pm. Cost $25 Introduction to Lace - Knit A Lace Hat with Anne. Knit a beautiful but simple lace hat on circular needles. Pattern can be adjusted for a DK or Chunky weight yarn; Madeline Tosh DK would work very well. Knitters should be able to cast on and knit on circular needles. Class held on January 26th from 6 to 8pm. Cost $20 Introduction to Socks: A beginner’s guide to your first sock. Anne will lead you in making your first sock with an easy to knit pattern. We have loads of beautiful sock yarn to pick from. You will need a set of Double Pointed Needles in a size #3 or #4 US. Knitters should be able to cast on and knit and purl. Classes held on Mondays: February 2, February 9th and February 16th from 6 to 7:30pm. Cost $40 Fair Isle Hat: Back by popular demand, Christina’s Fair Isle Hat Class. Make a gorgeous Fair Isle hat, Pediboo Worsted solid and a Manos silk color changing yarn are suggested. Knitters should be able to cast on and Knit in the Round. Instructor will email students prep work instructions. Classes held on Saturdays: February 21st and 28th from 10 to 12pm. Cost: $35 Reversible Cable Scarf: Christina will guide you in creating a sumptuously dense cabled scarf, warm and chic, it will be your favorite cold weather woolie, and it’s reversible, so there is no down side. Worsted weight wool with a size #8 US needle is recommended, Manos Maxima, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Juniper Moon Farms Moonshine would be lovely. Class held on Wednesday March 11th from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Cost $20 Two at a Time Toe-Up Socks: Love knitting socks, hate having to make another one after you’ve finished the first? Then this is the class for you. You can fit your sock as you knit along and you won’t run out of yarn before you finish because the foot is done first. Christina will lead you in this fabulous new way of making socks. See our wonderful selection of sock yarn at the shop. Knitters should be able to knit in the round using the Magic Loop Method. Intermediate Level. Classes held on Mondays: April 6th, 13th, and 20th from 12:30 to 2:30pm Cost: $50 All yarn used in classes, except where noted, must be from the Purls of Wisdom Shop.
