Clerics On Rampage: Who Is Speaking For God? It started with Pastor Bosun Emmanuel, with his stirring speeches on national politics vis-a-vis the role of Christians. He identified the opposition party an islamic party and succeeded in whipping up sentiments that got many Christians hating Moslems and pitching their tent in what they thought was a Christian party. To him, performance was not a good yardstick for measuring a candidate, but the will of God. The question is: how do we know the will of God? Then, came Father Mbaka. He became the defender of the Igbos against his perceived enemy - the President. He scolded the President like a headmaster would a recalcitrant student. He took advantage of his pulpit to air his political opinions. Father Mbaka may have given the APC a cause to cheer, but he has left me wondering about the role of the pulpits in politics. It was the turn of the Methodist Prelate Archbishop Samuel Uche to use the pulpit to call for the arrest of Buhari and other APC leaders. With the President seated in the audience, the Archbishop, put on a detective toga and accused the Fulanis and the Kanuris of plotting to take over power by all means. And the President is out campaigning for the votes of the same Fulanis and Kanuris! On the same day the Archbishop wore the religious-political-detective cap, Venerable Felix Okonkwo was busy in Asaba at the special thanksgiving service in honor of Ifeanyi Okonwa - the Delta State Governorship candidate of the PDP. He followed up on the line of thinking of Pastor Bosun Emmanuel to label APC an islamic party and to ask Christians not to vote for the party. Reports had it that he, thereafter, asked for a donation and got N10Million towards the completion of the church buliding. I am wondering: who is speaking for God?
