Client: sportsperson, plays regularly but recently has been rain affected. Hamstrings and quadriceps have tightened up from lack of use and lack of stretching. This has affected hips and lower back. Treatment: Prone - initial effleurage to warm up the leg muscles. Pressure point release of the extensor and flexor digitorum longus and hallucis longus (the long toe muscles). Sliding frictions to the tibialis anterior and posterior (shins) and peroneals - athlete spends time on toes! Calf stretch (at the ankle) and light friction to the brevis toe muscles, toe range of movement and pull-stretch. Pressure point releases through the arch of the foot. Sliding friction into the calves, then hamstrings and lateral quad (vastus lateralis). Quad stretches - active and passive stretch. Pinched the hamstring to the lower hip bone until it released. Hip extensors/abductors gluteal region - point releases with range of movement of the upper leg used to try to free up the hip. Found tension in the adductors, and slight hip rotation causing medial muscle/nerve impingement. Sliding friction to the erector spinae, point releases of the lower back (quadratus luborum), pinching rhomboids and upper traps / levetor scapula. Found muscle tightness around T9 - worked along the ribs and abdominals, and up/laterally to serratus posterior, then back to T9 to mobilise with "gapping" the muscles near the spine, more stretching and sliding friction - release! Supine - hamstring stretches - four angles on each leg to stretch each one. Interleaving the stretches with a facial - steam hot washer, Dead Sea mud pack, hot washer face massage then Garnier matt-finish deep moisturiser. Side-lying - adductor cross fibre friction, and sliding friction to large and small adductors. Gracilis strained - very tender at lower attachment. Achieved a release. Recommended pain cream to relieve adductors and commencing stretching in a few days after pain has stopped
