Cliff Hanger’s Gallery proudly presents the first solo exhibit by Sioux Falls born artist Shaine Schroeder, entitled “Out of Appeasement”. The gallery located at 126 South Phillips Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls will house an entirely new collection of works by the artist from April 4 – 26, 2014. Schroeder began work on this new collection beginning November of 2013. Mediums run the gamut from watercolors on paper to acrylics and spray-paint on canvas and wood. Schroeder has had over 30 shows in his career, including several in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Minneapolis to name a few metropolitan areas, but “Out of Appeasement” will be his first solo gallery opening in his hometown of Sioux Falls. The artist has received various awards and commendations for his work from public and private schools, government agencies and museums alike. His talents have landed him work with the likes of Slash, formerly of Guns N’ Roses, skateboard companies, and local businesses in the community as well. “The title for the upcoming show is indicative of the headspace I’m in at present,” says Schroeder. “I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I got to the place every true artist dreads, which is to say I was in a perpetual state of people pleasing. Trying to copy and paste what had worked in days past that got me a paycheck. The rawness of my work suffered greatly and I started to feel like a fake. I began experimenting and doing things for the right reasons once again, and it felt like Christmas morning. I was happy, and free, and with that statement I invite with open arms the barrage of cliché’ cries, but it’s true. Art is fun again, and I couldn’t be more proud of this new body of work.” Cliff Hanger’s and Schroeder plan to distribute free signed, stamped and numbered limited edition prints to the first 20 people in the door on opening night of the show. “Sioux Falls is the most supportive place I’ve ever known, and I’m proud to call it my hometown,” says Schroeder. Without the people and places that occupy this city I never would’ve had half of the experiences I have thus far, and I’m forever grateful. The people here hold a special place in their hearts for that sense of tight-knit, “support local” community. It’s nice to have everyone out together for First Fridays.
