Cliffside Park (Racine Co.) Took a walk after sunset yesterday evening northward from gate at the picnic area #2 . We had a conservative number of 23 American Woodcocks heard/seen...including at least 16 calling with the remaining aggressively chattering in low flight in proximity to others peenting nearby or those seen that flushed near trail. We were treated to several low flybys as the males seemed to be shifting about. Further up the trail, two close-by males ascended in flight, one aggressively pursuing the other until they broke apart. One returned, landing on the ground chattering angrily before resuming its peenting. Expect numbers to drop as migration continues; well typically have eight or more on our spring field trip (April 9 at Cliffside).
