Clock our Great Western Bike Ride 20/07/14 - the day has finally arrived sun is shining and we are ready and raring to go. Bike rack all fixed to car thanks to Kev Hudson ( I dont either of us would have had a clue) and off we go to the start. Reality hits when we get to Long Ashton, lots of professional looking cyclists with all the lycra and gear, nerves are kicking in a bit but weve trained for this so heads held high we make our way to the start line and were off! Legs are a bit slow to start with and Kerry is worried her brakes are stuck but we persevere in the heat and soon warm up. It doesnt take too long to get to Burrington Combe where we do our steepest climb, its ok we did this last week but we quickly realise when we get to what we thought was the top there is another mile of climb!!!!! Its not just us who are gasping for breath, but do we stop? Hell no we keep going and get there in the end. Another 18 miles of pleasant cycling until pit stop two where get a cupa and bacon roll, bloody love it was too and catch up with lots of people we know from the gym and Weston A C. Fairly uneventful for the next 20 miles, quick break in Burnham to say hi to Kerrys supporters and we make our way to the finish line in Weston where we collect our medal and a lovely friend is waiting for us with a much needed glass of Pimms, thank you so much :-) Well we did it 56 miles, fabulous day, wonderful atmosphere and fantastically organised, a definite must for next year (weather dependent) and great to see so many familiar faces :-)
