Cloud cover? Not complaining, just weird. Nice break from feeling like an ant under a magnifying glass in the sun. Our weather has me worried, though. My friends well went dry. Two more are digging theirs deeper. Well diggers increased their rates too. The majority in my town is republican boomers, including my parents. They were in a huff when the water restrictions went through. It got turned it into tea party freedom issue. People had the gaul to whine about having to go to a car wash to wash their cars and change their sprinkler timers. Some are watering out of spite, and still growing rye grass lawns. Usage went up 1% despite the new voluntary regulations. Seems like these weird little storms in the summer would be a good thing but the plants are very sensitive and rain at the wrong time can devastate crops. It knocks off blooms or moisture rots green fruit. We used to flood a bit in november december, lots of fog and have frost in february, spring rains, and then dry as a bone in the summer. This year the lack of frost and cold had the almonds blooming in february and they had to spray them with something to make them go dormant. Farmers in the valley are switching from veggies and fruits to nuts to compensate. It is happening fast, too fast. This area produces a surprising percentage of the countrys produce. Ive noticed that food has gone up quite a bit in the last three years. Maybe it is time to move on. Its a tough call because Im proud of being an 11th generation californian. I will probably be better off leaving younger and healthier than not. Big decision time. Im thinking do it next summer.
