Coal Miners Light A poem from the book Coal Miners Light.. God made a Coal miner: by t. fisher God looked down and needed a man, To work in a world deep beneath the land A man with commitment and feelings real, With a back so strong and arms of steel. A man with a heart, with care and love, for his family, his country, his God above. A man who loves and cares for his land, a man with pride to take a stand. He looked down and said sir, you will have to be strong, the work will be hard and dirty, the days will be long. A 40 hour week will just begin, the hours, the time, the work here within. To sweat and toil beneath the earth, with pride and commitment from the day of his birth. A man with no fear of dangers around, the bowls of the earth, the mountains great sounds. A man who understands the perils in life, of a hard day’s work, filled with stress and strife. A gentle touch when he gets home, for his children, his wife, keeps his family strong. In the hills of Appalachia he found his man, hard at work in Gods great land. Here in Appalachia proud to take a stand, here in Appalachia God made a coal mining man.
