College student, Trayon Christian, went into Barneys clothing - TopicsExpress

College student, Trayon Christian, went into Barneys clothing store earlier this year to purchase a $350 belt he had saved up for. He was inspired by rapper Juélz Sântaña who wears the same type of belts. After buying the belt, he left the store but only got about a few steps away before being accosted by undercover NYPD officers, asking How can a young black man afford such an expensive belt? A Barneys clerk, who had asked Christian for identification when he bought the belt, called police claiming the purchase was a fraud. So they arrested him and took him to the precinct. There, Christian produced his identification, his debit card from Chase and the receipt with his name on it. Despite that, Christian was told his IDs a fake. Finally, they called Chase Bank, who verified Christians story. Then the police let him go. He has no arrest record. Christian later returned the belt and vowed never to shop at Barneys again. He is now suing both Barneys and the NYPD for unspecified damages. Barneys New York had this to say: “Barneys New York typically does not comment on pending litigation. In this instance, we feel compelled to note that after carefully reviewing the incident of last April, it is clear that no employee of Barneys New York was involved in the pursuit of any action with the individual other than the sale. Barneys New York has zero tolerance for any form of discrimination and we stand by our long history in support of all human rights.” Barneys and NYPD, the ignorant actions of your employees have serious consequences. Expect the full force of a backlash because if a black man cant even buy something without still being labelled fraudulent then clearly thats a problem. #Barneys #BarneysNewYork #boycott #protest #NYPD
