Colts Secure Derby Victory!! Halesowen Town Colts took all 3 points on Derby day in a game that saw both teams missing key players. Halesowen were without both Captain Aidan Emslie-Scriven and Vice-Captain Lucas Steatham for the game, which meant Seb Owen took control of the armband for Derby day. This also meant that the Colts would go in to the game without their two leading scorers and only 2 recognised strikers, which meant a slight change in system. The first half saw Halesowen put in a very dominant display and they went in front when some typical hustle and bustle from Harry Jennings down the right resulted in bizarre opening goal, which caught the opposing goalkeeper off guard. There was nothing bizarre about the Colts 2nd though a superbly executed training ground corner resulted in Harry J smashing the ball in to the top corner midway through the first half after a clever assist from Levi Allen. Halesowen went in to the break with a 3 goal cushion, this time Seb Owen scored a fine individual goal as he surged through the opposing defence before smashing the ball home. The 2nd half saw a more evenly matched game, Harry Jennings completed his Hat-Trick early on but then Francino made a couple of fine stops to keep the score at 4-0. Luca-Milo had Halesowen’s best chance to make it 5, Levi Allen jinked down the right before squaring for Luca but his shot went agonisingly wide. There was little Francis could do 5 minutes from time though when The Colts were opened right up and a cool finish left Francis with no chance at all. Final Score 4-1 at Blakedown. Manager Stuart How said “I believe the game was won in the first half today, we started the game on the front foot and scored at very important times in the game, Tom Broughton kept us solid at the back which enabled us to give Harry, Seb and Levi some freedom, which they exploited superbly. The second half showed just how important it was that we had the lead as the game was very evenly matched with the half finishing 1-1, which on reflection was very fair. I was particularly pleased with our shape today, when our opposition had free kicks and set plays we got bodies behind the ball and made it hard for them to pass the ball. We missed our forwards today but thought the boys did a great job without them and still managed to put away enough chances to win the game. We also lost Callum Ray who fell Ill on the day and just wasn’t well enough to step on to the pitch in the end so it was a fabulous effort by the boys as they all had to play for a lot longer than usual. I am looking forward to the next time our 2 sides meet, both sides had key players missing today and I’m sure if both managers have a full squad to pick from, we will be in for a cracker!!
