Columbus Discovering America- re: Criticizing the Criticizers Yall back ole Atilla (The Hun), friends, since he was, as you say, such a nice guy and well stand to remind ourselves of the way this country land really discovered. Its called genocide, plain and simple, and has been a sad part of our colonial past, our Christian kill them if they wont convert strategy for conquering this scary foreign wilderness. Hunters price was paid for dead indigenous people, at least those whom were not cooperative or submissive. Its how it was done, yes, and how the west was won. But not all people held this world view of the sub-human savages. See the Quakers, for instance. I love _____s re-writing of history, as if to change anything. (Apaches were also blood-thirsty, blah, blah..) We know what went down and how and why. It aint pretty, and anyone whom says the wiping out of most of the entire indigenous populous was somehow a good or reasonable thing is seeing things through bloody eyes. Not everyone was, as you say, ruthless. You must have heard of this idea of genocide, right? Not a new and historically repeated phenomenon, unfortunately, but none the less tragic. Some of my friends, whom are native American themselves, would certainly take issue to this entire pro-genocidal notion and trying to re-write history to somehow justify the systematic butchering and eradicating of hundreds, thousands of entire groups and tribes, millions of real, caring, and suffering humans. Not some joke. Thanks for tolerating my opposing view here. Peace.
