Comes a time when the white light looms in front of you.. The white figures stand by your side.. You look to the distance.. Either side of the path figures stand.. Spectral faces stare All with questioning eyes.. Ian first in line.. As he was all that years ago.. A young boy of fourteen.. Now broken and dishevelled .. The cliffs of Cove were cruel to the unwary climber.. Why me John?..he seemed to be saying.. Next in the deathly line up stood Josie.. Young and beautiful with the palest of pale face.. Fifteen and struck down with diseases meant for the old.. Why me John?.. I wandered forth.. Three friends stood together..all unsmiling.. Why us John?.. Elizabeth stood next to my old pals.. Her beautiful raven blach hair matted with blood.. Why me John?.. Tears welled for my questioning friends.. Another lad..jimmy was next in line.. His thick glasses now broken on his face.. The cause of torment from youths blind indifferance .. He had joined the ranks of broken bones lying at the foot of the Bullers of Buchan.. Why me?.. Standing next in the line of misery was Sandy..wet and lonely looking.. Two weeks at the bottom of the River Don had scarred his old grizzled features beyond recognition.. Why me.. Huddled beside him stood dozens of faceless figures.. All wet and broken.. Some more forgotten faces from the beauty spot called Persley Den.. Why us?.. Old Phil waited next in line.. He smiled and shook my hand..a cold wet hand.. A north sea tiger hand.. Told me his kids are ok but still asked Why me?.. My forty nine year old dad stood at my mothers side.. Both radiant as I remembered them.. Mums old sad body was now In its forties .. They looked happy..They never asked why.. Paul hovered beside them.. His motorbike leathers looked immaculate.. We cried.. He said nothing..I was glad.. Faces stretched into the distance.. Some said nothing.. A resignation on their faces.. Some asked why?.. The white light dimmed.. My two companoins led me back.. I turned to look at all my lost family and friends.. Some were crying..some were smiling.. I headed back towards the blue skies.. A breeze blew gently in my face.. I walked out of the white tunnell towards my sons and daughter.. My youngest had a puzzled look on his face.. He was to young.. We all bozied and wept.. I glanced back to the fading tunnel.. It was gone.. I was left with the nagging question..WHY ME?.. Look after your selves..stay happy..and stay away from the light..xxxx
