Comfortable People ~ You awake? Of course you are, you’re reading this (which means you’re on Facebook which itself means you have a device - a laptop, a smartphone, an iPad, a whatever - in your possession that gets you here). Chances are? You woke up where you live, right? (If not, you’ve a friend close enough to you so’s you can sleep there). Dressed yet? Those your clothes? Coffee (or breakfast beverage of choice…a “choice”!) in hand? Whoa…that means food-in-‘fridge, eh? Which, of course, means you HAVE a ‘fridge, right? Got somewhere to go? Maybe werrrk? Ah…you’ve got a job. Well, not all, but chances are? If you’ve something to read this on, you’re leaps & bounds closer to getting a job than someone who doesn’t. Besides reading this, you using your device to call/text/communicate with other folks? Family? Friends? Oh. You mean you’ve got those, too?! Put all of these questions and the answers together and what are you? Why, you are one of The Comfortable People. Of course you are! You already have so much going for you this day that it is stunning! Literally, wealth beyond measure. No? Here’s a truth: Comfortable People, the vast majority, for sure, do not…maybe cannot…know what it is to be without. Without the shelter in which you awoke this day. Without the food you, without really contemplating, ate this morning.without clothing, transportation, a few bucks in the bank. The Truth is that we are blessed beyond measure to have this bounty in overwhelming proportion, aren’t we? Think. About. That. Have you ever known what it is to be without? To be in need? Not in “want”, mind you, but truly in need? No, truth be told, me neither. And for me to offhandedly and ignorantly dismiss the desperation of The Other who is truly in need, living in the abject poverty that plagues “civilization”- of whom there are many in my midst, daily- , by dismissively saying that they cannot miss what they’ve never had? Why, that’s heartlessness and cruelty befitting no man. Am I ranting? Well, yes, and most likely just at me (“If you spot it, you got it”?), but if the shoe fits…? There are opportunities for generosity and grace everywhere, aren’t there? They do not have to be anything but simple, meaningful, effective. You see them all around, as do I. What say we seize one or two of them this day? What a difference that will make! If not us, then who? If not now? Then when? Love The Other this day as if it will be your last chance to do so…It just might be. Peace & blessings, Y’all! Let’s each go out & do some Good!
