Coming into Mackinac this weekend I have been asked about whether or not I will endorse Wes Nakagiri for Lieutenant Governor. We need a credible candidate to challenge Brain Calley because he supported Medicaid expansion, cast the deciding vote on the pension tax and supported Obamacare exchanges. There are people encouraging me to run for the position myself and I am considering that possibility. There are also those that are encouraging me to endorse Wes and unite around one candidate. Mr. Nakagiri has not asked me for my endorsement or reached out to me for assistance. I have some real reservations given some of his past ties to the establishment. Those ties may prevent him from being the candidate able to coalesce enough of the conservative base to win and as of now the majority of requests from the grassroots are asking me NOT to endorse him. While Calley certainly needs to be challenged and replaced, we have to have the best candidate in the race to accomplish the task. I am just not certain Wes Nakagiri is that choice.
