Comissiong hopes CAC team could improve 2011 performance. (Submitted by Sports Journalist) MANAGER of this country’s contingent to the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Senior Track and Field Championships in Morelia, Mexico (July 5 to 7) is hoping this year’s contingent could improve on the team’s performance at the 2011 edition of the meet. George Comissiong said the 33 member squad can better the 15 medal haul in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico two years ago. Speaking ahead of the team’s departure to Mexico on Wednesday, Comissiong added that the team is stronger than the 2011 outfit. The Mexico bound team includes reigning defending champions Cleopatra Borel (women’s shot put), Renny Quow (men’s 400m), Semoy Hackett (women’s 100m), Ayana Alexander (women’s triple jump) and the women’s 4x100m. The NAAA First Vice President said several of this country’s top athletes were allowed from skip the meet as the date of the three-day championships was recently changed and is now held one week earlier than previous scheduled. “Some asked to be exempted because of the change of date as they had other commitments.” Commissiong said the meet will provide an opportunity for local athletes who have not yet attain the standards for the upcoming World Championships in Moscow, Russia on August 10 to 18. “The World team has not yet been selected and some athletes will be hoping to make standards at the CAC.” However, the Petrotrin employee added with the high altitude in Morelia several distance athletes have been excused. “The Morelia stadium is at high altitude and as such the distance athletes were allowed compete at other meets in their bid to qualify for Moscow. In addition, the humidity will also be a challenge. As such the organizers have scheduled most of the events for the morning session as the humidity increases rapidly during the day and the temperatures drop in the night.” Comissiong said the medical team is prepared for the climatic challenges and that ‘”systems are in place to aid in recovery.” FULL TEAM Women? 100m-Semoy Hackett (Zenith), Reyare Thomas (Neon Trackers)? 200m-Hackett, Michelle Lee-Ahye (Rebirth), Kamaria Durant? 400m-Shauana Fermin (Memphis Pioneers), Ramona Modeste (Neon Trackers)? 800m-Aleena Brooks (Memphis Pioneers), Dominique Williams (Neon Trackers)?1 00m Hurdles-Aleesha Barber (Rebirth)? 400m Hurdles-Sparkle McKnight (Neon Trackers) ?4x100m-Hackett, Thomas, Durant, Kai Selvon (Air Bon Sonics), Geronne Black (Memphis Pioneers)? 4x400m-Fermin, Modeste, Brooks, Selvon, McKnight?
